Week 3: EARTH
In week 3 of this 5 part series, the abundance of high summer fades into the oranges and yellows of late summer, as we move from the element of Fire to that of Earth.
The organs and their meridians associated with Earth are the Stomach and Spleen, the organs of nourishment and transformation. A well-balanced Spleen plays a crucial role in transforming nourishment into energy, Qi, and mentally is responsible for clearly pondering on our options and possibilities, and helps us make final decisions. When the Spleen is weak we can feel fatigued and find it hard to think clearly or make decisions - our head can feel 'woolly'. When we have been over-thinking or worrying too much this can weaken our Spleen Qi and we feel exhausted. A classic example of this is found in students working hard for exams, but it is also a common result of many other stressful situations we are subject to in daily life.
In class we will identify where the Earth meridians are in the body and which yogic exercises are of particular benefit. We will practice a wonderful set, Nabhi Kriya for Prana-Apana Balance to work directly on the Earth element by toning the digestive system and also balancing the mind.
Each of the classes in this series stands alone, so don't worry if you missed last week. You are welcome to join in at any time.
You will need to bring a yoga mat, cushion and blanket.
